A Knock at Midnight (AKAM) is a non-profit community-based organization who provides services to the Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, and West Chatham communities.
AKAM's mission is to collaborate and build linkages with schools, churches, nonprofits, and government institutions. Collaborations are developed to provide prevention services for residents. Educational trainings are implemented to build positive character and enhance life skills of all participants through training and workshops. Position Description:
The Assistant IT Trainer is a part-time position. The Assistant IT Trainer must take a hands-on approach to improving digital literacy skills in young adults. The Assistant IT Trainer will play a key role in mentoring and helping young adults develop digital literacy and test taking strategies to increase skills to pass gate keeper exams such as Microsoft Office and ADOBE. Serving in this position can be a highly fulfilling venture for candidates interested in supporting young adults in learning and identifying methods for teaching digital literacy.

Reports to the Program Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant IT Trainer will:
• Work closely with the young adult to help them successfully pass industry level
certification exams.
• Work collaboratively with other educators on developing literacy strategies for
young adults
• Collaborate with Vocational Trainer to plan literacy initiatives and outcomes for t
the purpose of social and economic advancement
• Monitor, track, and achievement data for program evaluation purposes
Qualifications:
Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in education
• At least 2 to 3 years experience in urban education or vocational settings, serving low
income and minority students
• Knowledge of teaching digital literacy
• Patience and the ability to remain calm in face paced work environments
• Ability to create the best conditions for learning or teaching new things
• Excellent leadership skills
• Relate well to young adults
• Passionate about the helping others succeed
• Passionate about serving others
• Flexible and open to change.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to teach digital literacy skills to young adults
• Retired teachers welcome
Compensation: $30.00 per hour
ABOUT US
WHAT’S IN THE NAME
The framework behind the name of our organization came from a sermon titled “A Knock At Midnight” preached by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.- which was later published in a book entitled, The Strength To Love. Being educated on the nuances of the civil rights movement for over 15 years, the one thing that stuck with one of our founders, Minister Johnny Banks Sr.

AKAM primarily focuses on providing direct services in the communities of Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, and West Chatham. However, our services are also extended throughout the city and surrounding surburban areas.
