JOB DESCRIPTION – Victim Service Advocate
A Knock at Midnight (AKAM) is a non-profit community-based organization who provides street outreach services in the Englewood neighborhood in Chicago. AKAM's mission is to collaborate and build linkages with schools, churches, nonprofits, and government
institutions. Collaborations are developed to provide prevention services for residents.
Job Description:
Reports to: Program Coordinator
FTE: Full Time (1.0)
Hours: 9:00 pm - 5:30 Monday thru Friday
The Victim Service Advocate will respond to violent incidents in the Englewood community. Responses could include visits to crime incidents, a victim’s home, hospital etc. Responses could be in-person or by phone depending on the circumstance. The Victim Service Advocate will be responsible for providing immediate support and advocacy for individuals or families impacted by violence.
Qualifications of Victim Service Advocate

● Relates well to and works well with in a collaborative fast paced work environment
● Passion for helping others
● Excellent interpersonal skills
● Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and critically think through a plan, use data to guide work
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Connect individuals and/or families to mental health services
● Provide trauma-informed services for youth
● Provide employment support
● Support families in their interactions with police and/or receive case updates
● Complete intake forms for participants to receive victim services
● Accompany participants to court, where applicable
● Help families plan funerals, where applicable
● Help individuals/families navigate agencies/organizations to receive resources and services
Compensation: $23.00 per hour
ABOUT US
WHAT’S IN THE NAME
The framework behind the name of our organization came from a sermon titled “A Knock At Midnight” preached by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.- which was later published in a book entitled, The Strength To Love. Being educated on the nuances of the civil rights movement for over 15 years, the one thing that stuck with one of our founders, Minister Johnny Banks Sr.

AKAM primarily focuses on providing direct services in the communities of Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, and West Chatham. However, our services are also extended throughout the city and surrounding surburban areas.
